Dear Parents and Students,

I am writing to let you know that the Ministry of Education has authorized the privatization of the Qatar Canadian School effective immediately, and that the school will be renamed and operated by Blyth Academy Qatar.

Blyth Academy is Canada’s leading private school by enrollment with 15 schools in Canada and the United States and more than 6,000 students. More than 98% of our graduates in 2015-16 were accepted to universities and more than 95% by schools of their first choice. Blyth Academy employs more than 800 certified teachers and holds accreditation from Ontario and Alberta in Canada as well as the Middle States Association in the US. More information on Blyth Academy can be found at www.BlythEducation.com.

Blyth Academy Qatar will provide an easy and seamless transition for you and your children from QCS and will continue to teach the Alberta curriculum and hold accreditation from the Ministry of Education Qatar. Many of the former faculty have agreed to return and we will be introducing a new Principal, David Brazeau, in September. We would like to thank both the former Principal and Vice Principal for their dedicated service to QCS and we wish them well in the next phase of their careers.

David Brazeau is a very experienced educator and leader having headed public and private schools both in Canada and internationally, most recently as Principal of the Canadian International School of Egypt. He is also an accomplished teacher, athlete and coach, and has built and led community services projects both locally and internationally.

Blyth Academy Qatar will continue to occupy the QCS school buildings, but will look to build a state-of-art K-12 school for the 2018-19 academic year. Existing students will be given priority for places in the new school, including the children of faculty of the College of the North Atlantic Qatar and the University of Calgary in Qatar.

Families and sponsors that have already paid deposits for the 2016-17 school year will get full credit for these and school fees will remain unchanged from 2015-16. The school will continue to accept Qatari vouchers. A few places remain for the coming year: If you have other children or friends with children please have them contact us quickly as we will certainly be full.

In September, prior to the start of the school year, we will be holding a town hall meeting for parents to meet the new Principal, faculty and staff. I will also attend and I look forward to getting to know you and listening to any suggestions that you might have to make the school successful from the outset.

If you have questions in the meantime please feel free to contact us at [email protected] or the Principal, David Brazeau at [email protected]

In the meantime I hope you and your families have an excellent summer and we look forward to seeing you in September.

With best wishes,

Sam Blyth MA, Cambridge
Chair and CEO,
Blyth Academy.
